Patio Covers, Pergolas & Decks in Wheat Ridge, CO

Wheat Ridge is known for established ranch homes and larger lots with room to grow. We design and build patio covers, pergolas, screen rooms, and decks that make the most of that space, and we handle City of Wheat Ridge permits and inspections.

Building a Patio Cover, Pergola or Deck in Wheat Ridge: What to Know

Wheat Ridge moved to the 2024 International Codes for all new permit applications starting January 1, 2026. Its design criteria use a 35 psf snow load, a 135 mph ultimate design wind speed and a 36-inch frost depth.

When you need a permit: porch covers, and awnings that extend more than 54 inches from the wall, require a building permit. Decks are on the city's permit-required list too. Some smaller projects are exempt from a building permit but still need a zoning permit, so check before you build.

Permits run through OpenGov. New permits have gone through Wheat Ridge's OpenGov portal since early 2025.

Tip: The city's old website (ci.wheatridge.co.us) still shows outdated code information. The current rules are on wheatridge.gov.
