Patio Covers, Pergolas & Decks in Parker, CO
Building a Patio Cover, Pergola or Deck in Parker: What to Know
Permits in Parker come from the Town of Parker Building Division, and all permit applications are handled online through eTRAKiT. Parker adopted the 2024 International Codes, in effect as of June 30, 2026, along with the 2025 Colorado Wildfire Resiliency Code. The 2023 National Electrical Code stays in place until the 2026 edition takes effect January 1, 2027.
When you need a permit:
- Decks: Parker requires a permit for all decks, regardless of height or size.
- Patio covers and pergolas: permits are required for new structures regardless of size. The one exception is a one-story detached storage-type building up to 200 sq ft with ceilings no higher than 10 feet.
- Screen rooms and sunrooms: additions and structural alterations need a permit and plan submittal.
Planning review is part of the process. Parker's Planning Division reviews many of these permit applications to check zoning conformance, and most Parker neighborhoods also have an HOA with its own design approval. We plan for both so the build starts on schedule.
The town says permits are required for almost everything, so call the Building Division to confirm before you start. Contractors must be registered with the town.
