Patio Covers, Pergolas & Decks in Louisville, CO
Building a Patio Cover, Pergola or Deck in Louisville: What to Know
Permits in Louisville come from the city's Building Safety department, and every submittal is electronic through the CSS Online Portal. Louisville adopted the 2024 International Codes effective December 6, 2025. The city's design criteria use a 36-inch frost depth and a 145 mph wind speed, with ground snow load taken from the ASCE online hazard tool for each address.
When you need a permit: Louisville's "Does my project need a permit?" chart says yes to all of these, with no size exemptions.
- Decks and pergolas: Minor Permit (Deck or Pergola).
- Covered patios and porches: Minor Permit (Patio/Shaded Cover).
- Sunrooms: Residential Addition permit.
Fire hardening applies to decks. After the Marshall Fire, Louisville adopted a Fire Hardening Code. For new construction and accessory structures, deck surfaces and railings must be Class A rated, and the area under a deck 6 feet or lower needs gravel over plastic or concrete. We spec materials that meet it from the start.
Louisville requires a city contractor license backed by passing ICC exam results. Check with Building Safety before you build.
